Some of you may know…and some may not… that I am not a good housekeeper. I *stink* at it. I even made a layout about how I don’t vacuum or dust. I have been so lucky that Wade will do those things (along with the bathrooms…) without any grumbling. But even Wade’s cleaning was few and far between. The result?? Chaotic last minute cleaning whenever we have company coming over. Endless apologizing and pleas for guests to not look in the kids’ rooms for fear that they may have a stroke when they see the mess in there. The “excuse” that I have three young boys…’how am I ever supposed to keep the floor clean?!?!’
Well…I decided last week all of that was going to end. I got tired of living that way. I got tired of feeling like I was drowning on the weekends because there was so much cleaning to do. The dirty house stops here.
For quite a while we have had a laundry schedule. The theory is that I do one load a day. The schedule is the same every week…Mon-boys’ clothes, Tues-darks, Wed-whites, Thurs-boys’ clothes, Fri-towels, Sat-sheets, Sun-Wade’s work clothes. In theory, this keeps me from having to do all of the laundry in one day. Most of the time it worked…occasionally it didn’t. The theory is still a good one. So, I decided to apply it to all of the other chores I need to do around the house. And I made these little chore lists out of scrapbook scraps….
Aren’t they cute?!?!?!?! And so far….they work! This past weekend was LOVELY! There was no laundry to catch up on. The kitchen was clean. The bathrooms were clean. The bedrooms were clean… You get the picture. The BEST thing about it…. Now that all of these things are clean, the weekly upkeep is going to be a breeze! Instead of having to clean a months worth of gunk out of the tub, I can just go in there once a week and spot clean. It’s pure genius I tell you. *wink* Why didn’t I think of this sooner???
Now….if Tyler could just not get grounded every weekend, we could actually enjoy our new found weekend freedom…. oy.
HOF countdown…32 more days.
that is actually a brilliant idea. i need to think about doing something like that although my tasks would be about 10-15 minutes a day.
Heather,
Remember…it’s never too soon to start letting three little boys be a part of that plan. All I’ll say is “Mark Twain” and “white picket fence painting.”
Get ol’Huck & Tom & Benji involved and sit back and watch.
All my love to you all, always-
Dad
What a clever idea.
Hope the new doesn’t wear off
and it continues to work for you.
Maybe Ginny could make me some cute
little “flash cards du jour” so I
won’t fall in arrears with my house
husbanding chores. 😉
This is such a great idea Heather! I hope you don’t mind, but I posted about your idea on my blog and linked it back to here. I know my friends would love this idea too!
