I should write a book.

My dad tells me this all the time. I’m beginning to believe him. Today was one of those days that started out ok, and then it just started snowballing down the hill. Actually, the initial snowball was more like a boulder. LOL!

We drove up to Breckenridge. It’s normally a 2 hour trip. It took us three hours. Thanks to the snow and the car accident (Jeep ended up laying on its side…thank goodness it wasn’t us…). And aside from the occasional “Are we there yet??”‘s, it was not entirely a bad trip. As soon as we got there we were hunting for lunch. The boys were tired of sitting and they were hungry…not really a good combination. We ate lunch at Bubba Gump’s. Yes, it’s what you think. A restaurant based entirely on the movie Forrest Gump. The food is pretty good and the atmosphere is always entertaining. We finally get done eating, get the boys to the potty and back in their snow gear and Avery says that he doesn’t feel well. Ugh. Wade takes him up to the bathroom again and I take the other two outside. (For anyone who is wondering…I don’t handle puke very well…. ’nuff said.) I get a call from our friend Robin. We are going to meet her and her family to check out the snow sculptures. At that point, I call Wade to see if Avery is ok and if he just needs some fresh air. Wade says he’ll bring Avery down. Well…..we waited another 15 minutes or so and they finally came out. Turns out, they were on their way out when Avery up-chucked on the stairs and Wade took him back in to the bathroom to do it again. What a pleasure it must have been for those sitting around the bathroom. oy.

We finally get to the snow sculptures and they have a great play area for the kids. Avery is running aroung and playing and acting fine. I go look at the sculptures with Robin and then Wade takes Benji to go look while the other two are playing. All is going well, but we are all beginning to get cold. We decided that we would go to Robin’s timeshare lodge and take advantage of the indoor pool and hot tub. (You remember the snowball…mmmhmmm…it’s about to roll…) We were having a great time swimming and relaxing. The boys were all showing off thier swimming tricks and having a blast! Five o’clock rolls around and we have to get going for some dinner. I go in to take a quick shower and leave Wade to get the boys together and get them dressed. I came out of the locker room 20 minutes later to find Wade still sitting by the hot tub in his swim shorts and the kids all still playing in the water. Come to find out, Wade had almost passed out! He had spent most of his time in the hot tub and it got to his head. He knows now that he just can’t stay in the hot tub for that long. eeeks. So the boys finally get herded into the locker room with Wade. They were in there for quite a while when Wade and Tyler came back out.  Of course I asked where the other two were. Avery was lying down in the locker room. He felt queasy again. Oh man. And Benji was playing hide and seek in the lockers. Tyler could not be left out of that, so he went back in. Not two minutes later and he was out again. He reported that Benji had made a mess in his pants. (You see the snowball, right??) As he was in the men’s locker room and I couldn’t go in there to take care of it, Wade finished putting on his shoes and went to assess the damage. It was pretty bad. Poor Benji. This is his first ‘bad’ accident in a long time. I’m sure that he was embarrassed that it happened in the first place, but then we had to put his snow suit on him commando…that couldn’t have been comfortable. Our plans to go out to dinner were trashed. We decided to get something fast on the way home. So much for ‘happy hour.’

Even through all of this, we managed to have a pretty good time. And we’ve decided that next year we are just going to get a room for the night so we don’t have to do so much driving in one day. We’re going to start planning it now to get a jump on the ski season bookings.

I am thouroughly beat, but I promised some pictures. Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend! Good night!

This one is called “Mother’s Love”

This one is “Old Man Winter”

This is just another view….to show all of the detail that goes into these things. This sculpture earned first place this year.

I can’t remember the title of this one, but it was just so interesting to me.

  1. My only problem with Bubba Gump’s is that there are like 5 things on the menu that aren’t seafood. 🙂 I don’t eat it so it’s a challenge to find something I will eat. The best Bubba Gump’s I’ve been to is on the big island of Hawaii, nothing beats the atmoshpere.

Hope all the boys are feeling better!
